Quick Health Tip: Diabetes & Traditional Diet

Type 2 Diabetes is becoming epidemic in North Americans, and is especially prevalent in Aboriginal communities. This type of diabetes is not present at birth, but is acquired from diet. The main cause is from eating processed foods, especially those containing sugar, and gluten (found in wheat, barley and rye).

Research has shown that following a diet that is closer to early Aboriginal food customs can REVERSE diabetes. After 3 months everyone in the study had normal blood sugars.

The main foods in a traditional diet are fruits, vegetables, nuts, seafood and meats. This means no grains, no dairy, and no salt. Especially avoid any sweetened drinks like pop, juices and alcohol, as well as processed foods.
